OPEN CALL: ARTISTS' MENTORING PROGRAMME (FUNDED, ONLINE)

Mentoring opportunity with Isabel Rocamora. Funded. Online.

In partnership with Taigh Chearsabhagh Arts Center and Museum.

Open call: closes 15 September 2021.

Moving image artist Isabel Rocamora will be offering funded creative one-to-one individually tailored mentoring for two artists who are interested in developing their practice in moving image and/or still photography.

The programme, co-designed and hosted by Taigh Chearsabhagh and UistFilm, and is open to artists, at any stage of their career, working in any medium, living and working in the Highlands and Islands. We are particularly interested to hear from artists residing in the Outer Hebrides.

The mentoring will provide a space for dialogue, feedback and guidance that responds to the particular interests and requirements of each individual artist so as to support them in developing and maturing skills and methodologies towards accomplishing their creative goals. This programme will help you break through road-blocks and equip you with the tools to develop thoughtful and impactful work. We will address the creative process: from idea, through development, thematic, technical and craft experiments and production, to making it public. In order to focus our time together, we ask you to be specific about the element of your practice that you wish to work on.

Whether the starting point is an idea for a project, a project in development or an actual production, the mentoring will be structured around hands-on creative making. Mentorees will be expected to commit to progress by devoting at least 50% of their time to working on their project and towards their goals.

There will be one two-hour mentoring session per month over a four month period (November 2021 - February 2022). The sessions will take place online, via the Zoom platform. Taigh Chearsabhagh will supply in-kind use of video production equipment, editing resources and training in Uist, and a showcase of the work produced during the mentorship.

This mentoring programme is being delivered alongside Isabel Rocamora’s 2021-22 project The Deep, funded by Creative Scotland and in partnership with Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre.

To apply for the programme please send a statement outlining your practice and creative development goals & suitability for the programme (2 page max.) with links to up to 4 recent examples of your practice and a cv/biog to andy@taigh-chearsabhagh.org by 5pm Saturday 14 August 2021. Selection results will be announced mid September. Programme starts in November.

We look forward to reading your proposals!
